Myomoto Musashi is a Silky Llama born August 5, 2013 at Aurora Farms in Ottsville, PA. He is of Peruvian and Bolivian lineage. Musashi is a regal looking animal, very intelligent, and has great guarding abilities. He watches over his Alpaca friends, Ares, a white Peruvian Huacaya, and Shadow, a dark brown Peruvian and Chilean Huacaya. They free-range on approximately 8 acres of organically maintained pasture with a 1 acre pond. They are the companions of Bonnie Haas and she spends as much time as she can walking with them in their peaceful, beautiful pasture.

Llamas and Alpacas are great animals to be around. Here is a little history:

They originated in South America and were extremely important for guarding other animals, packing goods and as companion animals. In the Andes, Llamas and Alpacas were domesticated over 5,000 years ago. They are members of the Camelid family.

The Llama has been scientifically shown, through DNA analysis, to have originated from the wild Guanaco. They have specific personalities and both Llamas and Alpacas “Hum” when they communicate. They are curious and very intelligent, quiet and very observant, and can be determined and stubborn! People talk about Camelids spitting but it is a way of communicating and defense, only when necessary!

Both Llamas and Alpacas are prey animals so are very aware of their surroundings at all times. They can be trained as long as there is trust and understanding, and being patient and gentle.

Today, Llamas and Alpacas are not only great companion and working animals, but are valued for their fiber which provides great warmth. Wonderful garments can be knitted, crocheted, felted, and woven, using their dense, soft fiber.

Bonnie Haas values the experiences she has daily with her Camelids, especially the adventures with Musashi and will be sharing that with all of you. Enjoy some scenery of the farm, funny photos, and wise words of wisdom from Musashi!
